Some comments from visitors last weekend.

We promise we haven't made the following comments up. They are some of the wonderful emails that have arrived in our inbox over the last few days... Thank you to everyone who has written or filled out a comments form - it means lots to receive all your lovely words. We are very grateful. From the Coryton family

***Thank you for opening your lovely gardens to the public on Sat/Sun. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit on Sunday and intend to come again !
Congratulations on the quality of EVERYTHING and the friendly approach from all with whom we spoke. As my friend said "a lovely place and a lovely family ". We completely agree.

***Dear Coryton Family,
A quick mail to say we had a lovely day at Pentillie on Sunday. It was Mothers 78th birthday and after watching the House rescue a few weeks ago we decided to come and visit. We look forward to many more as you grow and develop your business.
Comments as requested
We were parked in the top field on your small hand out map. A cross to say you are here at the start would have been helpful. Once we got our bearings it was fine.
Tea room was a little chaotic this could be remedied with a more contra flo system ie have your tables in such a way that people immediately stop for Tea Juice Savoury Cake. then pay at the end. The queue went to the far side then back to the tea pot through the queue to pay the poor lady who stood up all day
If the table had been a little further out then people would have not just had a free for all.
Apart from that your staff were great friendly and a delight to talk too.
Well done for making Pentillie such a superb place to visit.

***Thank you for a really super day on Sunday.
We came to visit you with two family members from Tiverton in Somerset, we so enjoyed the day your family were all so helpful, the coffee/tea was just what we needed.
We long to visit again and wish you all good wishes in the restoration of Pentillie.
Please keep us informed of your future events

***We had an absolutely wonderful visit to Pentillie on Sunday - we have watched the television programme twice and it really felt like a visit to friends even though of course we don't really know you.
There were six of us in our party, and the overwhelming response was "how friendly all the Pentillie people are, not like the rather officious attitudes of some houses one visits." All the parking staff stewards must have gone to bed with fixed smiles on thier faces but their greetings all rang true and welcoming.
Congratulations on what must have been a very worthwhile day for you- we look forward to visiting again.

***Just wanted to say thank you for opening the grounds of Pentillie Castle to the public last weekend.
I visited on Saturday, and have to say the gardens are delightful and the situation absolutely stunning. The 'upspoilt' nature of the grounds added to the delight of the visit, so many gardens are a bit 'over imaculate'. Many NT properties, have very similar planting and not a weed in sight, so to see the individuality of Pentillie was a rare treat.
The coffee and chocolate brownie were very welcome too!
The atmosphere amongst fellow visitors was fantastic, one couple I chatted to had come from Surrey, which made my trip across the Tamar from Devon seem very insignificant! Everyone I came across expressing their appreciation of the gardens and the hospitality shown by all hosting the visit. Visits to other gardens has never produced such a chatty, friendly atmosphere with everyone seemingly wishing to share their delight
Hope you don't mind the email, but just wanted to express thanks for a wonderful sunny day in such a delightful place, Hope it was a success from your point of view and wish you all the very best with your ventures.

Garden opening a great success

Thank you all for coming to see the gardens last weekend. Nearly 2,000 of you came during the course of the weekend which was truly wonderful We loved sharing Pentillie with you all. And, if you didn't make it this time, we jolly well hope you can make it on Easter Sunday or Monday. The gardens will open again then from 10am until last admission at 3pm. No dogs we're sorry. Admission is £5 per person, children under 16 are free.

A special mention must go to our team of unbelievably amazing volunteers. Without them it would have been a disaster, so a very heartfelt thank you from all of us Corytons.

We look forward to seeing you at Easter

Sunday 15 March 2009

Open day 10am until 3pm last admission

We are open again today 10am until last admission at 3pm.

The weather is gorgeous and more flowers are coming out daily.

We look forward to seeing you later today

Thursday 12 March 2009

Gardens open this weekend.... Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March

The gardens will be open for the first time this weekend. Be warned they are very much a work in progress and you need sturdy walking boots or wellies and a fair amooutn of stamina. There is limited parking right by the castle, so be prepared for an expedition in every sense of the word!!

The gardens will be open from 10am until 3pm. £5 entry. Refreshments and toilets will be available in the castle. No dogs allowed - sorry.

Apparently rumour got out that the gardens will be open this Friday (13th March) as well... This is NOT the case. However, they will be open on Easter Sunday 12th and Easter Monday 13th April again.

We look forward to seeing you.

The Country house Rescue episode went to air again last night!

We had a lovely email from Allen who asked me to post this message on his behalf...
"Can you upload this to your blog please
Coryton Family 1 Ruth Watson 0
How rude can Ruth Watson be? I'd like to nominate her for a dress makeover with Trinny & Susannah. And just why doesn't she ever take those long jackets off (what exactly is she hiding underneath them). Ah well, Mum rose above it and won in the end. At least she did you one enornmous favour and put you on the map. We plan to come April 12, plus walking boots.
Also thinking about an exclusive rental for a group of friends that have been meeting up for over 30 years in the Autumn (not this year though as already fixed venue).
Just carry on as you are, you don't need any more advisors."

Renovation renovation renovation!

I think that is the name of another TV show, but not one we are starring in this time.... Pentillie is being renovated - in a major way.
However, having started in September, we have an amazing team of about 20 guys working on site, who are doing the most unbelievable job.
Not only is the interior taking shape, paint going on, fabrics being chosen, bathrooms going in, carparks finding a home, but the gardens are opening and we are booking weddings!
I will try and add pictures soon, but for the time being suffice it to say that the renovation project is on time and on budget!
We will try and keep you posted on developments, but it is still a madhouse in our wee office!
We look forward to seeing lots of you in March and again in April when the gardens are open.
14th and 15th March, 12th and 13th April from 10am to 3pm. Wear sturdy shoes, be prepared to walk, and bring a bottle of water just in case it's tropical Cornish weather!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Shirley & Dave Maple [15.01.09]

Having watched Pentillie on Country House Rescue we decided to visit your website
and were so impressed as to what progress you had made and what an excellent
website you had created. Although, living in Salisbury, we are some way from you, we hope when we retire to visit Cornwall again and also to visit your gardens.

Some years ago we visited the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan and have
to say Heligan was by far our favourite. Your gardens look extremely interesting
without being formal, something which we love.

Once again, congratulations and best wishes to your family for a very successful business venture.

Saw TV show its amazing !!

Summer Visit

Sandra Wright [15.01.09]

I saw the tv programme about Pentillie Castle and loved it ! I shall visit this summer .

Head Gardener

Yvonne Boone [15.01.09]

Thank you for a very interesting Channel 4 programme. I have learnt from my Mother that Great Grandfather was head gardener on the Estate name of Johnstone

Best wishes for the future.

Country House Rescue

Suzie Duprez [15.01.09]

I watched Country House Rescue this week and I am writing to say that I wish you all the very best for the future. I can't wait to come down to Pentillie - what a romantic setting. I am sure Pentillie will be a great success and I will come down one day to stay. I love your website - it's a real pleasure to read and the photographs are beautiful - well done!!

With kind regards and my very best wishes to you

If I had my time again...

Maria Ritchie [15.01.09]

I have been married for over 30 years, but after seeing Pentillie Castle featured on Channel 4, and if I had my time again....I would certainly choose this location. Although the programme showed Pentillie as 'work in progress' it was fantastic viewing. After your family 'waiting in the wings' for many years, its wonderful that you are all now back at the heart of the Castle, which you obviously adore and deserve! Bravo.

Channel 4 Documentary

Jacqueline Fox [15.01.09]

Watched the Channel4 documentary. What a beautiful place,no wonder you couldn't part with it.I am wondering how much advice Ms Watson gave you,she appeared to come in,state the obvious, then leave you to it.I found her rudeness towards you regarding the "mood boards"quite staggering,we are all entitled to an opinion but her timing was unbelievable.I am not surprised you were upset,I was upset for you!You have clearly risen above it,your website is great.I certainly hope to visit the gardens this year.

Thank you for sharing your inheritance!

Hazel McHaffie [15.01.09]

I just wanted to say that I loved the programme about your fabulous inheritance and am thrilled to hear of the ambitious plans for it. I feel I know you from all the connections but you came across to everyone as exactly the right people to own and develop this wonderful estate. I look forward to visiting it after so many years of exclusion, and watching in its evolution to something more 'internationally valuable' than Helligan!!! Well done and thank you for sharing your inheritance with us all.

Your website is brilliant too.

Very best wishes, Hazel

TV Show

Mrs Christianne Hemming [15.01.09]

Hi. We saw Pentilie on the TV show a couple of nights ago and decided to look you up online. We must say that your place looks utterly fantastic and we really hope you have great success with your venture ! We may even book a visit ourselves...

Determined to visit

Tracy Pollington [15.01.09]

I googled Pentillie after seeing it featured on the Channel 4 programme which was aired recently.

I fell in love with the estate and was so pleased to learn the gardens are to be opened to the public for a couple of days this spring.

I am determined to visit, even though I know it will take me about five or six hours to get to Pentillie!

I am so thankful that the estate has been rescued and is loved.

House Progress

Annie Elliott [14.01.09]

Just to say how nice it was to see the house prior to builders and then watch
it go through some of its changes towards the point that we then saw it.

I still don't know how you put up with that woman. I don't think I would
have been so patient, she really is awful.

The house and the project came over really well so I am sure you will get lots
of interest. It is such a lovely place. and you are clearly good at getting people to
enjoy themselves. ( I found photos of us all on the Tamar expedition having a great time).

Best wishes

Excellent website

Cynthia Hillyard [14.01.09]

I watched Pentillie Castle this week on Country Houses and was very impressed with what I saw. I wish you all the very best and hope that you have great success, you deserve it. Pentillie Castle looks absolutely beautiful and the location stunning. Hopefully we will be able to visit the gardens one day. We visited Heligan when it was just starting out and look at it now may you enjoy the same success. Your enthusiasm and hard work really deserves to be rewarded. Your website is excellent.

Wonderful Pentillie

Zoe Douglas [14.01.09]

Hello to all at wonderful Pentillie....

Just a quick email after having a nosey at your website. I am quite sure that you have had lots of emails after the TV appearance last night..mine being another one of those emails! I watched the programme with my Mum and we have both now fallen in love with your beautiful home and estate. Even if you just had the grounds we would have been entranced but add that to the beautiful house and all the cottages...well, we were like pigs in clover watching all the wonderful buildings and grounds being slowly revealed.

We spend an awful lot of time in Cornwall (our spiritual home we think!) and were so excited to learn that you will be opening the house this year and we agreed that a a visit will be a must when we next visit from up country (we are in Wales). I have to say that the two things that grabbed my attention the most were the super little Bathing House (what a complete gem) and the walled garden. I have had a long and enduring love of these structures and am completely fascinated by them. Quite a strange interest for a twenty something girl but I love to imagine the hard work and camaraderie of all those who toiled in these amazing gardens 100 years ago. The fact that the gardens fed a whole house and all its guests, day in day out all year round is no mean feat and I hope your plans include restoring the structure to its former glory...it would be the perfect butter icing on your already beautiful cake!! I have watched the series Victorian Kitchen Garden on DVD and read all of Peter Thodays books on such gardening so many times its silly...highly recommended reading for you guys! There is a walled garden close to where we live but the owners have turned it into a modern study centre....quite sad really as the wonderful thing about the Victorian Kitchen Garden is the the romance of the times gone by juxtaposed with the sheer practicality and bloody hard work the old time gardener put in day in day out! No modern stuff, just learned knowledge passed form generation to generation.....wonderful!
Gosh what a lot of waffle...anyways I just wanted to say we loved your story, your home and your enthusiasm for what you are doing and hoping to do. Keep up the hard work, there are many many of us that appreciate you sharing your home with us.

Oh and if you ever run any gardening holidays...sign me up, I would love to get my paws dirty in that kitchen garden! Can I sleep in the bathing house...?

Take Care Pentillie
Zoe

Mammoth task

Brian Brenchley [14.01.09]

Good evening to you all,

I have just spent the last hour watching last nights Channel 4 programme and came up to the PC and was amazed to find this excellent Web Site.

It became obvious during the programme how passionately you all felt about the Castle and it does you ALL great credit to now see the results of your labours.

I personally have no knowledge of the area and at 77 years of age I doubt very much if I will ever get to see it and at this advanced age am not likely to be making a 'Booking'!, but I felt I just had to make an entry in your 'Guest Book' and, wish you all the luck in the world for the success of the venture after completion of the mammoth task you took on.

Best regards

Good Luck

Deborah Cambridge [14.01.09]

I am not looking for a wedding venue, but just wanted to say having watched the Country House restoration programme, that I think your house, estate, gardens and views are absolutely beautiful. I would die for the opportunity to do something in the same vein but alas, am unlikely to ever inherit , buy or steal such a venue! I wish you all the luck in the world and look forward to the day when I may see it in the flesh, and if you decide to open it for overnight stays or even day visits, I will most certainly do so. Good luck for 2009 and most importantly, continue to enjoy every moment of every day. You are indeed very fortunate to have the most wonderful foil for your chosen expertise.

Two head injuries but I will visit

Graham Bentley [14.01.09]

Hi I saw the programme last night on channel four and I found it fascinating and will definitely be coming to see the gardens I don't know when as I have had two head injurys, but the distance is not great Bath in B.A.N.E.S, best of luck with the jobs you have undertaken and may it give you great pleasure as it will visitors I am sure best wishes.

Wish you future success

Brian Wills [14.01.09]

Hi, just a congratulatory email on last nights ch 4 prog about Pentllie castle I enjoyed it so much. My farther Albert Wills was a tenant at Strawberry hill from the late 30s until the late 70s.Having spent my childhood & teenage years there it was a wonderful to place to grow up. Really looking forward to visit the garden open day in March only having been at the castle once before when I was a boy of 10.I wish you all future success.

Castle on TV

Jill Hawkes [14.01.09]

Saw your castle on TV and remember it from my childhood in plymouth, now live in Norfolk but come to Cornwall regularly and will certainly visit when we do. We wish you all success with your venture as it is a truly beautiful and magical place and deserves all your efforts to restore it.

Thank You

Mood boards

Karyn Stevens [14.01.09]

Hello I just wanted to drop you an email to say how much I enjoyed the programme last night and have to compliment you as a family on you enthusiam and passion that you have for wonderful Pentillie, I have to say it is quite honestly in my view one of the most enchanting places. ( and I loved the mood boards take no notice of that woman ! )

Keep up the good work

Kind regards

Magical Pentillie

Christine Hopcroft [14.01.09]

I watched the channel 4 programme last night, it gave me such a warm feeling, Pentillie Castle i am sure is magical and just makes me feel a love for it, even though i have not yet visited. I wish i was getting married!! what a dream come true it would be for any bride and groom.I promise myself to visit one day Also i would like to say how lucky the castle is to have such kind, dedicated, charming couple to take care of it. I wish you every success in your exiting venture.

Dreams come true

Ian & Margaret Moxom [14.01.09]

Hello, after watching "Country House Rescue" on channel 4 last night, we just wanted to say that we were very impressed with your determination & energy to bring the Castle to life and save it from the fate that many buildings and estates of it's kind suffer. We wish you all the best for the future and hope that all your dreams & plans for "Pentillie Castle" come true!

Fallen for Pentillie charms

Bryan Thornborough [14.01.09]

I am so pleased that you have fallen for the charms of Pentillie and will develop a business around its many interesting features. Good luck.

Congratulations on your achievement

Jean Johnston [14.01.09]

Congratulations of what you have achieved. You have great courage and determination and we will watch your progress at Pentillie not just with interest but with the greatest of respect.

What you took on was a huge challenge - we wish you and your family every success and only regret that our daughter has chosen to marry in the ruins of St Andrews Castle with just her brother and her partner's friens present. The choice is the right one but oh! how I would have loved it to have happened at Pentillie.

The best of luck to you, your family and the Pentillie community

PS - by the way you both certainly look very much younger than stated in the press.

Luck of the Irish

Marie Casty [14.01.09]

Not an enquiry, but I saw your programme on channel 4 last night and I just had to look up the website. Your property and its location are simply stunning. More that that, you all seem such

honest, hardworking, decent people (especially the Dad). Its a mammoth task that you've taken on, and you really deserve to suceed, and if personality counts for anything you will thrive!!!

The very best of Irish luck to you all.

Garden open day

Nigel Trewern [14.01.09]

Good Luck, keep up the great work you are all doing.Very good TV show, pity about that bloody women Ruth.

Looking forward to your first Garden Open day.

Swiss congratulations

Melanie Sands [14.01.09]

As a Brit living in Switzerland, I and my husband love the show Country House Rescue, and just adored your castle - and especially the amazing grounds. I'd LOVE to be able to visit and wander around the entire estate, it looked absolutely beautiful and by making it open to the public you are allowing a lot of people to spend dreamy hours in amazingly romantic surroundings. I wish you strength for all the hard work you have had, and will have!

Pentillie View

Lynn Franklin [14.01.09]

Having watched with interest the programme last night (our house is called Pentillie View, on the other side of the Tamar) I would like to wish all of you much success in your venture. You have all worked so hard to make this happen.

TV programme

Tessa Pridmore [14.01.09]

I have just watched the TV programme I would just like to wish you success with your plans. You deserve it as your enthusiasm is so great.

Camera & sketch book in hand

Deborah [14.01.09]

Having watched the Channel 4 programme, 'Country House Rescue' featuring Pentillie, I will be extremely interested to watch another of Cornwall's hidden gems emerge from the mists of time and neglect. I have had the joy of visiting both The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project from their opening and would encourage anyone who appreciates the beauty of Cornwall, the wonders of Nature and the history of our countries gardens to visit Pentillie as it is now, and be a part of it's transformation over the coming years. As an artist who is only truly happy when painting and drawing the wonders of Cornwall's sub-tropical gardens (in all weathers), I hope that it will be possible for Pentillies' new custodians to bring the gardens back to life for all to enjoy without loosing it's soul and spirit, and without over commercialization. I hope to visit soon, camera and sketch book in hand! Best wishes.

Congratulations (CHR)

Lyn Bloomer [14.01.09]

Have just seen your home featured on Country House Rescue, enjoyed it so much & was curious to see how work was progressing. May I congratulate you all, on the hard work & loving care, so obviously put into the 'make over'. Pentillie Castle looks magnificent & may I add, you must feel so privileged to be custodians for such a wonderful Estate. Good Luck for the future ..........

Good impressions

Anne McCall [14.01.09]

I was fortunate enough to watch Country House Rescue yesterday evening and just wanted to say how very beautiful I thought the property and surroundings are. It is unique. I was terribly impressed by the approach you are taking to managing and renovating the castle. Wishing you every success for the castle's future.

Restoring Pentillie

Simon Carrington [14.01.09]

Well done on restoring Pentillie Castle back to its beautiful former Glory. I watched the TV programme this week and thought that, although Ruth disagreed with you slightly, you really had put your heart and soul back into the designs and colour schemes of the house, and for that you should be very proud of your acheivements. One day I would love to visit Pentillie Castle, as Im sure it is as beautiful in real life as it looked on screen (I'm sure many other viewers will visit you too after seeing the programme). Anyway I just wanted to say well done on all your hard work.

Ruth was hard work

Judith Ziolkowski [14.01.09]

Thoroughly enjoyed the programme last night on your beautiful home. Thought Ruth was a bit harsh on some of the work that you planned to do on the house and after all it is your home, something she seems to fortget at times!

I thought you worked so hard to get it ready for the presentation and I plan to come and visit with my sister in the Spring. I am a member of Kelso Horticultural Society and would enjoy a visit to your gardens.

I live in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders, where the Duke of Roxburghe has his Castle, which is also on a large estate and also on the river, the Tweed. Maybe the Duke could give you some hints instead of using Ruth's advice!!! He certainly runs his Castle as a business, also renting it out for weddings, etc.

Good Luck with Pentille and look forward to seeing you in the Spring.

Wishing you well

June Horsman [14.01.09]

We saw you and your beautiful home featured on television last evening and would just like to say you have earned the great success we wish for you in the future. We look forward to visiting your lovely gardens when you are able to invite the public to view them.

Moved by Pentillie story

Jenny Williams [14.01.09]

I was so moved by the story of Pentillie and to see the work that the family are now doing is just amazing. I was looking through the web site and see that volunteers are welcomed for help with work to the Kitchen Garden. I would love to be involved with this if at all possible and wonder how this works. I would be willing to work either for long weekends or a week at a time during my holidays. I can truly see why the family are so emotional about Pentillie, I would be exactly the same.

Gobbstopper Necklace

Janet Cale [14.01.09]

I would just like to say what a wonderful job you have made and are making with Pentille Castle. I watched the programme last night and was so glad. I had never heard of your castle before and it is so beautiful and you should be proud to share it with everyone. If I lived nearby I'd volunteer to help everyday I had spare. Good luck with all that you do and really enjoy it, the woman in the blue coat and gobbstopper necklace really was wrong with her comments. Jan

Castle colour

Zenda Trim [14.01.09]

Saw you on Channel 4 last night, WHAT A GORGEOUS place you have inherited. I wish you well in your new venture. My only comment about your web site is the writing, its hard for me to read, BUT LOVED the interaction of images.

I would love to see a horse and carriage drive through the original drive wouldn't that be a lovely site.

Also I THOUGHT the colour you chose was good for the house. I thought Ruth Watson was a bit out of order with you all in last nights show. I can understand why Sarah was upset.

Anyway good luck. Its a fabulous place and its great you want to share it.

Inspiration to many

Rowena Turner [14.01.09]

Just wanted to say what a wonderful programme last night about your beautiful home. It was the best of the series by far. Your gardens are just magical and waiting to be revealed and discovered. I shall certainly come down in March to see them and will hopefully be able to follow their progress over the years. Thank you for having the heart and courage to continue with this project - you are an inspiration to many.

Well Wisher

Bridget Banks [14.01.09]

Wishing every success, please can you send me a brochure when available.

Programme 13.01.09

Allison Fergurson [14.01.09]

Last nights TV

Mr & Mrs Richardson [14.01.09]

After watching the tv programme last night I just had to log on to the website. What a stunning castle in our favourite part of the UK we look forward to visiting over the summer months. How about creating an on-line photo album of works to the castle and the garden, before and after shots.

Good luck with the continued restoration, we wish you every success.

Well done

Rick Horridge [14.01.09]

Just to say well done last night on the TV. Pentillie looks wonderful and you have obviously put your heart and soul into making it a success. I know that making the decision to take part in such documentaries is never easy and the worry about how things are portrayed can be stressful but hopefully the exposure gained will offset any negatives. You have all the necessary elements in place to make the venture very profitable and rewarding at the same time. Good luck with it all and I very much hope that the estate will now pass down through the family for many generations to come.

Well done to you

Juli Goodacre [14.01.09]

Well done to you all !!! I saw the programme last night and just wanted to say what a fantastic job you have done in bringing the whole project together. The website is fabulous and I can't wait to come and stay at the Castle in the near future. Keep up the fantastic work and for opening up the Castle to public once again. Best Regards, Juli x

Holidays in Cornwall

Kathy Hill [14.01.09]

I watched the programme on TV the other night about your beautiful house and all the hard work you have put into it. I did think the presenter was a bit harsh in some of her comments, (to me it sounded that 'money was no object' in some of her views. I don't know if this is the case or not but I think you have done/doing a wonderful job in the restoration of the house and gardens. I wish you every success, if ever we come down to Cornwall for a holiday we will most certainly be making a visit to Pentillie Castle. Good Luck.

Nurse at Pentillie

Donna Roberts-Cossey [14.01.09]

I simply wanted to say well done, I watched with great interest yesterday’s episode of "County House Rescue", (many years ago my Grandmother worked at Pentillie as a Nurse to Master Peter & Jeffery, she told many stories of the beauty of the castle & its grand visitors). your ideas and enthusiasm for the castle are wonderful & i wish you all the success you deserve for this brave project ; I, together with all my family, look forward to visiting the Castle gardens during your open day in March.

Best wishes for 2009

Jenny [14.01.09]

Just wishing you and your family lots of success in your new adventure .

Best wishes for a good 2009 and many more to come.

Informative website

Jane Pell [14.01.09]

After watching the programme on Pentillie I felt I must write and congratulate you on the wonderful work you are doing for this beautiful place and I just cant wait to make a visit very soon, and your web site is very informative, thank you.

Enjoyed watching Country House Rescue

Jacqui & Richie Self [14.01.09]

Really enjoyed watching the Country House programme last night.

How wonderful that the Estate is now in your care, sympathetically restoring the house and stunning gardens. It really came across how much you all cared about it as a legacy, ensuring local approval and support. Embracing sound advice and at the same time sticking up for your principles and imposing your good taste!

It is the most beautiful location and I hope that one day we shall be able to visit.

Congratulations to you all and we wish you every success in maintaining its natural, mysterious beauty.

All the best

Well done!

Marretta Corliss [14.01.09]

Hi Just wanted to email you to say "Well done" for what you are doing with the castle. It was a great programme and you are wonderful people. We are looking forward to the spring so we can visit your gardens when they are open.

Tamar Valley

Neil Dickinson [14.01.09]

I fell in love with the Tamar valley as a mine exploring teenager from Yorkshire well almost 40 years ago and was delighted to see Pentillie on TV last night (13/1/09). What you are trying to achieve is very commendable. This is mentioned on your attractive website, but I thought it worth saying (as an outsider, so to speak) that the gardens would be the ideal place to celebrate and highlight the unique history of fruit and flower growing in the Tamar valley. Heligan has a wonderful story, but it does not quite have that "real" historical connection with commercial horticulture that the Victorians found so fascinating on their boat trips up the Tamar. I was very moved and influenced in this respect by Frank Booker's "The Industrial Archaeology of the Tamar Valley" book many years ago. It is almost written with the love of a poet. Pentillie is very well placed to exploit river and rail links with tourism. How very up-to-date and "green" to leave the car behind for a while! The local tourist organisation seem to emphasise this aspect of access and it's interesting to see how the National Trust similarly promote Greenway (Agatha Christie's place by the river Dart). Anyway, rambling email over!

With Best Wishes for the future

Sitting here in Southern France

Linda Vurley-Hartman [14.01.09]

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Coryton and Sammie,

I am sitting here in southern France, having retired here two years ago from Cornwall, and just
wanted to write to you and say how much my husband and I enjoyed the programme last
night about Pentillie Castle.

We are filled with admiration for the project you have taken on and it made us very nostalgic
for beautiful Cornwall. What an amazing history and I spent an hour last night reading all
the websites about Pentillie - extraordinary to think we lived in Cornwall and did not even know
it existed!

I must congratulate you on your absolutely beautiful website and I am sure after last night's programme, your telephone will be ringing off the hook. Having spent most of my life in sales and marketing for hotels I was especially interested in your project and wish you every success. If I lived nearer I would love to come and volunteer on your Open Days.

Did you know that Rosalind Pilcher is extremely popular in Germany and there have been several television programmes about her books and the Cornish scenery and gardens on television there? You may already know this as I thought one of the journalists who visited you might have been from Germany, however if not you might like to follow this up one day.

Watching your programme made us very proud to be British and rather nostalgic, I must say! So thank you for giving my husband and I such an enjoyable evening and we shall follow your
progress with interest via the internet.

Very best wishes for your future success

Hello I've just watched your program on channel 4 and I greatly admire your passion and hope the whole project is a great success, and you were right to chose the soft furnishings that style. most folks have modern decor at home and they don't want that in a setting such as yours. Good luck with the opening. x

Good evening. I just wanted to let you know how wonderfully your family came across in this evening's Country House programme and would like to wish you every success in your exciting venture.

Daunting prospect

Jon Alexander [13.01.09]

Having just watched your documentary on Channel 4 we were amazed at what a daunting prospect it must have been to start this project let alone finish it! Congratulations on all your hard work in achieving what looks a beautiful and fantastic place...we are amazed that Sarah maintained her dignity with the cake knife after Ruth disagreed with her in the kitchen!!! We will hope to visit but wish your family all the best with the opening and ongoing business in the future.

Utmost admiration

Katharine Farmer [13.01.09]

After watching Country House Rescue I would just like to say you have my utmost admiration. It has taken myself and my husband the past four years to do up a small cottage and we could not even comprehend the amount of hard work you have had to put in to Pentillie. You have amazing enthusiasm and we wish you good luck for the future.

Wonderful! Inspirational! Incredible! Daunting!

Moira Allsford [13.01.09]

I have just watched Channel 4 program re. Pentillie Castle. Wonderful! Inspirational! Incredible! Daunting! and so much more I am sure - we will be coming. Best wishes to all of you,

Ruth's dress sense - lack of!

Vanessa O'Loughlin [13.01.09]

Hi, Just wanted to say that we've just seen the programme and think you are doing the most marvellous job- and we love your decor ideas! The website is super too. Please add us to your mailing list for when you do open to the public - we holiday in Helford each year so are in the vicinity (ish) every year. I think the Pentillie Babies is a brilliant marketing opportunity - lovely story (I'm a writer, so naturally nosey). Well done all, a beautiful house and you are a lovely family. Think I would have struggled to have that presenter (don't even know her name), tramping around my house. She does have a grasp on the market but wouldn't it be good if she took some professional advice on her wardrobe!

Stunning location

Paul Mayhew [13.01.09]

Ive watched the country rescue were Pentillie castle was featured. The location is stunning and the vastness of it could be useful in the summer months to have it open for public to generate more income. Every year we go visit this Place called Heveningham Hall in Suffolk, country fair, you can visit their website and see for your self that It can work as well in Pentillie castle., that therefore you can do the same.

More power, you are so lucky to have inherit such a stunning place.

Fantastic amazing estate

Andrew Tudor [13.01.09]

Fantastic amazing estate.
keep it up i love how its progressing, would love to come stay to see the place refurbished.

Thanks for sharing Pentillie

Sharon Cail [13.01.09]

We were blown away by the house and its gardens having watched the broadcast of Country House Rescue this evening on channel 4. We hope that they develop as you would wish them to and that you can continue to restore them for future generations to enjoy. Thanks for deciding to share them.

Fantasic website

Iris Hill [13.01.09]

It is interesting to see that you have done the web site properly! Having looked at some of the houses after the Channel 4 programmes, they really have not got it together with the web site, which is of mega importance in your marketing. This looks fantastic and very professional and is exactly what is needed. I hope you have as much success as Heligan did!

Enjoyed Pentillie CHR the most!

Ruth Simms [13.01.09]

of all the country house rescue programmes,i enjoyed yours the most.congratulations on all you have achieved in such a short time.

Blown away

Barbara Crowe [13.01.09]

Having watched the Tv Rescue programme earlier this evening, I just wanted to say how 'blown away' I was at the fantastic setting but more importantly the warmth from the family. I would like to wish you all the 'Good Luck' which you deserve for the future. I am looking forward to travelling down to visit with my husband. A 'Personal and National Treasure' to be preserved! I would have loved to have spent my honeymoon some 33 years ago in the Bath Hut!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish you all the very best of luck.

See you in the future

Nigel & Amanda Read [13.01.09]

Congratulations on what you have achieved. We have just watched the programme County House Rescue on Ch 4 and wanted to find you on the web. We will most certainly be paying you a visit in the near future. Well done again.

I just wanted to comment on how much I have enjoyed watching channel 4 and your wonderful castle and grounds. I cannot believe how beautiful your home is and I wish you every success with everything you do. I only wish I could get married again and hire your venue !! (to my husband again of course) !!
Once again good luck. You have a truly beautiful home.

Impressed with hands on approach

Cathy 13.01.09

Having just watched the TV programme about restoring Pentillie, I was very impressed with your hands on approach to doing a lot of the work yourselves( whatever Ruth said! )and how wonderful both the house and its setting are. This website is very tasteful too.

I hope to visit on one of the days that the garden is open. Expect you will be very popular and those days may be quite busy!

Good luck with the rest of the project-if I lived at that end of Cornwall I would try to become a volunteer!

Very best of luck

Sue Horton-Smith [13.01.09]

Having just seen the Channel 4 programme about Pentillei, I was interested to find out how things had progressed since the programme was made and visited your website. I just wanted to say how much I like the website! It's easy to use and informative, the photos are gorgeous and the overall style feels very appropriate. I hope to be able to visit the gardens when you open them. The very best of luck!

My great grandmother

Heather Mountjoy [13.01.09]

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the tv programme this evening and to be able to see your wonderful estate and grounds. My great grandmother, Annie Marks, is listed as working as a kitchen servant at the house in 1891 so it was lovely to be able to see a place where she lived and worked even if it was in the kitchen!! We have always been very intrigued as having been listed as living at Pentillie in the April of 1891, by the August she was in service at Windor Castle and we have no idea how this came about.
I am an archivist myself so I really do appreciate how important it is to preserve our past so I do wish you all the very best in bringing the house and grounds to life again.

Hidden gem

Anne Jones [13.01.09]

I would never have known about this beautiful castle and gardens had I not seen the program shown on television tonight.I have enjoyed all the series with Ruth, but this was the most exciting. Good luck with your project. I am hoping that I will be able to travel to Cornwall to see the results of all your hard work.

Wonderful website - you deserve to succeed

Jon Parsons [13.01.09]

You have created a wonderful web-site which successfully blends the past, the present and the future and informs the reader the uniqueness of what you offer. Your enthusiasm shone through during tonight's programme and I wish you every success in what you are doing - you deserve to succeed.

Magnificent estate

Claudia Cavanagh [13.01.09]

My husband and I have just watched the BBC4 programme about you, your lovely family and your magnificent estate. We felt incensed on your behalf. I worked as a journalist for 25 years and would have been charmed by your press launch. You carry on doing it your way - you are what will make it unique. Your love of the land and house is woven into the bricks, the trees, the water...and will infect everyone involved in the project - so much more than a moneymaking venture! Also, looking at your website, I think your branding is spot on. So: Well done for what you've achieved so far and best wishes for the future. I saw that house smiling through the scaffolding.

Dashed to the website

Annette Harrison [13.01.09]

Having just seen Pentillie Castle on Country House Rescue, I dashed to the pc to find out more about you, I am just amazed by its beauty and by your faith, determination and hard work. I wish you every success and hope to visit Pentillie gardens when they are open to the public.

Moved by the programme

James Cook [13.01.09]

I have just watched your episode of Country House Rescue, and have been so moved by the programme that I felt the urge to write to you to congratulate you both. Firstly on you being given the opportunity to own such a spectacular part of britains heritage and architecture, and secondly on the way you have chosen to put this amazing property to good use and share it with the rest of us.

I wish you all the success in the world with Pentillie as a profitable business venture and hope very much to one day have an opportunity to see it myself. We shall I'm sure be visiting the gardens even if we never end up being invited to a friends (or holding our own) function at the Castle.

Congratulations

Caroline Hawkins [13.01.09]

Very much enjoyed the series Country House Rescue and in particular about Pentillie, mainly due to the fact I am planning a holiday in Cornwall first week in March 2009. Sadly the date of my visit does not coincide with the garden open day at Pentillie but I wish you every success with that and look forward to returning one day in the future. Your website is lovely, so interesting with such beautiful pictures. May you achieve everything you wish for and heres to your continued success. Congratulations.

Natural ease of Family Coryton

Brian Harrison [13.01.09]

Just finished watching the Channel 4 programme, which rekindled the interest first provoked by one of those magazine articles last year. Splendour and charm, beauty and sincerity, potential and fulfillment oozed from every window, wall and track. There are elements of the series that have irritated but this final offering, from deep (sic!) here in the Duchy, established a fresh level of honest enthusiasm - delivered with such a natural ease by the Family Coryton. Really hoping to view things first-hand very soon.

Simply well done

Katherine Clemmens [13.01.09]

Just to say, that I watched Channel 4 tonight and simply wanted to say Well Done!

All the very best for a successful and prosperous future. You have every reason to be extremely proud.

Good job

R. Holbrook [13.01.09]

Just saw the TV programme and would just like to say that your doing a good job, and hope everything goes well for you.

Cornish do things dreakly

Jeanne & Rory Short [13.01.09]

Hello there,
We have just watched Country House Rescue and were so pleased that you have resurrected Pentillie. We lived in Rezare nr Launceston for 16 years and often wondered on our walks 'What was up there'?
It all looks so beautiful and the irony is, we moved to Essex last year to be near our Grandchildren so will not be visiting our Cornish ancestors for a while yet, as we would have paid anything to look round your gardens.

Our very best wishes to you all, please make a go of it, glad Sarah made Ruth look uncomfortable, the lady is getting a bit overwhelming and big for her boots. We Cornish do things dreakly not straight away.

Visit you on our holidays

Janet Evans [13.01.09]

Having just watched the Channel 4 programme, I wish you all the best for the opening of your wonderful estate to the public. It certainly is very special. We will certainly visit when we are on holiday in your area. Thank you so much, and good luck to you all.

Glorious home

Jacky Beavan [13.01.09]

I have just watched the programme on Channel 4 about your glorious home - Having done up a few older houses in my time I can appreciate the enormity of what you have taken on (far larger than anything I have every tried) and can only admire what you had achieved up to the end of the programme - you seem to have achieved a lot more since by the look of your web site. I have just been helping some friend with Hodsock Priory in Nottinghamshire (slightly smaller scale than you but similar project in that it was a beautiful old building but dying and needed some young input) and can only say keep on going - it looks fabulous and when I next come down hunting in your area i'll see if you have space for me. I also thought the TV lady (whoever she was) was somewhat heavyhanded but don't quote me. Good luck Jacky Beavan

Break from the midlands

Kate McCandless [13.01.09]

How wonderfull it was to see your project on the television last night, what a wonderful job you are doing as a family, we hope to visit you one day for a break from the midlands.

Magnificent transformation

Trevor & Liz Philpott [13.01.09]

Many congratulations on a magnificent effort of transformation and development. This is a courageous and visionary undertaking that future generations will greatly appreciate. We very much look forward to visiting you in the Spring and future years.

My son thought your house was amazing

Willma Swanson [13.01.09]

What a beautiful and wonderful place. Out of the whole series of programmes your house and gardens looked magical and you as a family were so nice. Best wishes for the future and if we can as a family we would love to visit. My 12yr old son thought your house was amazing.

Wish you every success

Barry Allt [13.01.09]

Congratulations to you all at Pentillie, the programme on Channel 4 was a credit to you all
Keep up with the excellent work and hope the future for Pentillie and you all will turn out to be very successful

Reap the rewards

Wish you all continued success and reap the rewards for your hard work and love that you put into Pentillie.

Country House Rescue - amazing job.

Eve Sullivan [13.01.09]

I have just watched 'Country House Rescue' on Channel 4. What a wonderful and enchanting place Pentille is. You have done such a brilliant job so far in restoring it to its former glory. I am sure it will be even more impressive and overwhelming when you have finished. I can't wait to drop the children off at my parents house in Devon and come down for a fantastic weekend visit.

The best of luck, you are doing an amazing job.

Holiday in your area

Janet Evans [13.01.09]

The latest from Pentillie Castle

We would like to thank everyone who has written and called and made such lovely comments. We are very spoilt!

Now we just have to manage the thousands of emails and letters that we have received and hope to get back to you all sooner rather than later.

Our thanks must go to all at Betty TV who made us all look OK, not to mention showing Pentillie off in all her glory!

More news and updates on the renovation work coming soon -including pictures I hope!!
