Some comments from visitors last weekend.

We promise we haven't made the following comments up. They are some of the wonderful emails that have arrived in our inbox over the last few days... Thank you to everyone who has written or filled out a comments form - it means lots to receive all your lovely words. We are very grateful. From the Coryton family

***Thank you for opening your lovely gardens to the public on Sat/Sun. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit on Sunday and intend to come again !
Congratulations on the quality of EVERYTHING and the friendly approach from all with whom we spoke. As my friend said "a lovely place and a lovely family ". We completely agree.

***Dear Coryton Family,
A quick mail to say we had a lovely day at Pentillie on Sunday. It was Mothers 78th birthday and after watching the House rescue a few weeks ago we decided to come and visit. We look forward to many more as you grow and develop your business.
Comments as requested
We were parked in the top field on your small hand out map. A cross to say you are here at the start would have been helpful. Once we got our bearings it was fine.
Tea room was a little chaotic this could be remedied with a more contra flo system ie have your tables in such a way that people immediately stop for Tea Juice Savoury Cake. then pay at the end. The queue went to the far side then back to the tea pot through the queue to pay the poor lady who stood up all day
If the table had been a little further out then people would have not just had a free for all.
Apart from that your staff were great friendly and a delight to talk too.
Well done for making Pentillie such a superb place to visit.

***Thank you for a really super day on Sunday.
We came to visit you with two family members from Tiverton in Somerset, we so enjoyed the day your family were all so helpful, the coffee/tea was just what we needed.
We long to visit again and wish you all good wishes in the restoration of Pentillie.
Please keep us informed of your future events

***We had an absolutely wonderful visit to Pentillie on Sunday - we have watched the television programme twice and it really felt like a visit to friends even though of course we don't really know you.
There were six of us in our party, and the overwhelming response was "how friendly all the Pentillie people are, not like the rather officious attitudes of some houses one visits." All the parking staff stewards must have gone to bed with fixed smiles on thier faces but their greetings all rang true and welcoming.
Congratulations on what must have been a very worthwhile day for you- we look forward to visiting again.

***Just wanted to say thank you for opening the grounds of Pentillie Castle to the public last weekend.
I visited on Saturday, and have to say the gardens are delightful and the situation absolutely stunning. The 'upspoilt' nature of the grounds added to the delight of the visit, so many gardens are a bit 'over imaculate'. Many NT properties, have very similar planting and not a weed in sight, so to see the individuality of Pentillie was a rare treat.
The coffee and chocolate brownie were very welcome too!
The atmosphere amongst fellow visitors was fantastic, one couple I chatted to had come from Surrey, which made my trip across the Tamar from Devon seem very insignificant! Everyone I came across expressing their appreciation of the gardens and the hospitality shown by all hosting the visit. Visits to other gardens has never produced such a chatty, friendly atmosphere with everyone seemingly wishing to share their delight
Hope you don't mind the email, but just wanted to express thanks for a wonderful sunny day in such a delightful place, Hope it was a success from your point of view and wish you all the very best with your ventures.

  1. Dear Coryton family,
We visited Pentillie on Monday Easter Bank Holiday.
It gave us great pleasure to stand by the boathouse and look up river towards Halton Quay where for the past 25 years we have often looked back at the boathouse and wondered...
For my wife it was like walking into one of her favourite childhood books..."The Secret Garden". The wildness and gently snoozing garden still awaiting to be woken to her full splendour. But please do not tidy her up too much, her unruly beauty added to the joy. My wife felt that she was 10 years old again.
We were so impressed by the friendliness of everyone we met, helpers and fellow visitors alike.
Congratulations. We wish you every success in the restoration and development of Pentillie.

  2. Hi, just wanted to say I saw you on Country House Rescue last night (it may have been a repeat but it's the first time I saw it) and I thought your house was beautiful. Just had a look on your website and it looks like you have come so far since then and done so well! Wishing you the best of luck with all your new ventures and I will be following your journey through your blog.
